S.M.S. Viribus Unitis - 1:250 - JSC
Hello
After a short break I am back with the next building report. Thus, I venture the first time on a warship, namely to the Viribus Unitis of JSC. My choice was in particularly because the Green color on this model, and because of the scale because I some civilian ships at this scale have already finished. On 14 A4 sheets approximately 1,200 parts are distributed, the text instructions are in English, German and Polish. Add to that a double-sided sheet with a blueprint in sides - and top view. Best regards |

Hello Don ,
welcome on board but here we go ... The three basic face parts are aligned and connected to the small flaps. You guessed already the size of the ship - 61 cm. Parts 4 to 13 are prepared and glued the schema to the base. fix the whole thing with paper tape on a hardboard. Then come two heavy glass plates, so everything overnight without arching through dry .Now can prepare the joists, and stick. The main deck is still waiting in the bow. |

Excellent start with the JSC-style hull construction. I hope the surreal scale cube will not affect the structure of the ship!

The main deck is cut out at the back, the parts are bonded to 34. 39 The casemates 41 and 46 are glued into the hull 40th Twelve times the parts for the 150 mm cannons, which are installed in the casemates. Glue Now the casemates step by step to the underside of the main deck. At the tops of the cannons are still covered with the stripes 55th . Kind regards Kurt |

Excellent progress with the deck and secondary armament. Those casemates look like a challenge.

Fascinating ship Kurt.
The color scheme looks good and takes the project out of the ordinary. And, if I am not mistaken, this was the first class of battleships with triple turrets. Mike |

Mike and Kurt -
Although the Viribis Unitis was an early example of both triple-gun turrets and super firing main gun turrets, a glance at Richard Hough's old, but useful book, Dreadnought: The History of the Modern Battleship (New York: Macmillan, 1964) tells me that the first battleship with triple-gun turrets was the Cuniberti-designed 1909 Dante Alighieri (p. 30) and the first battleship with super firing main gun turrets was USS South Carolina, 1910 (pp. 36-37). V.U. and its sister ships do appear to be the first battleships ever to have triple-gun super firing turrets. Incidentally, when South Carolina and Michigan were launched, Mississippi congressman John Sharp Williams, seeing them as superior to Dreadnought, suggested a more American and aggressive-sounding name for one of the ships should be Skeered o' Nothin'.
