The after aircraft turret is complete. The catapult was straight forward cut out. Also the 5' AA guns and many ammo boxes installed on both ships.

The Oklahoma has been a real pleasure to build. I added the foward and after 3" empty gun tubs using the Arizona's to model after. I also added the 5" AA gun shields, none of which are supplied with the 1930 kit.

Interesting, the US Navy removed the 3" guns from both the Oklahoma and Arizona prior to Pearl Harbor attack but left the tubs to save weight. Apparently the 4 guns on the 2 ships was just too much, but the tubs were left anyway.

These and all US BB's wee scheduled for added AA, but none received any due to coming threat of war. Not really wise thinking. Further research on USS Maryland, one the original 16" gunned BB's, her own cruw removed her after mast after Pearl to improve AA arcs. Unfortunately they left her with only 1 main turret range finder as a result until well into the war. Lucky she never encountered surface actions. The Maryland in this arrangement would make a nice model as she did not receive updates until well after the other old BB's.

Wonderful work, with whatever color matching you did, it makes it very difficult to tell in the side by side pics which one is plastic and which one is paper!

I'm glad to see this thread get a bump. The models are superb and the thread is filled with good info on building methods and on the colors and history of these great warships.

The images of the models as of last March are very much worth looking at again.

How long is the USS OKLAHOMA? Also, what type of glue do you use?

Orlik website says the finished model is 890 mm long.

As for the glue, there are various types that can be used. Here is one of the many threads which are about glue
