Hello Marco:
That is some grand superstructure, accented by the stripes down the side of the hull. Also enjoy your images of Lagos. Fascinating!

Moving up to the bridge (with interior), and the rest of the funnels:

Until your build thread appeared, I was totally ignorant of these multipurpose and emergency tow vessel ships of the German Coast Guard. Mellum is an impressive-looking ship and it looks like you will have some challenging detail work with the crane and towing gear.

I still have only sketchy information about these ships, but a Wiki article indicates that Mellum's regular beat is in the North Sea off Heligoland. Emergency tow vessel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stay safe out there!

Don,

Only the German version of Wikipedia has a page dedicated to the Mellum, but it includes some nice photos: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mellum_(1983). One of the functions of Mellum is to fight oil and chemical spills, for which there are the two sweep arms (more small detail!). A bit more info on the ship is on: Mellum - [Havariekommando]

We just had a big BBQ together with our neighbouring compound, so the lock-in wasn't too boring.

Beautiful detail work on that aft superstructure and crane!

Thanks for the additional resources. I see that the German for this type of ship is Mehrzweck- und Gewässerschutzschiff [multipurpose- and water (maritime?) protection vessel?].

The ship is indeed designed for the clean-up of oil and chemical spills, but unfortunately I have not come across any photos of the sweep arms in action yet.
Speaking of which, here they are on the model:
