Uss California, Fly Model, 1:200
Hi friends,
as my started build report of the USS California vanished in the depths of the web I try a second attempt. The model comes from Fly Model, scale 1:200, first edited in 1999. It has an attractive camouflage pattern and looks quite detailed. The bright red of the underwater ship will be repainted |

For information I use the following books as well as 1:200 plans I bought in Japan.

To start with I laminated the frames and the longitudinal beams with 2 mm “Finnpappe”, it`s the same material beer mats are made of. This is easier to cut than ordinary cardboard but still harder than balsa; the price is much better.
When sticking the parts together it showed that one slot for a longitudinal beam was positioned wrong, could easily be corrected. A notch was also missing. |

After applying glue the whole skeleton was sanded.
Planking started from stern to the middle and then from bow. The last piece is almost rectangular and is easily trimmed to fit. The joints were filled with hot wax and then everything was painted with pores filler, then sanded, the whole procedure was repeated. Painting was done with Humbrol red brown. |

I'm glad to see you are adding a U.S. battleship to your international collection of very-high-quality builds, Hans-Gerd. This one is clearly up to your very high standard. It looks quite beautiful so far.

Hi B-Manic,
it`s the same stuff you use to soak balsa wood. CU Hans Gerd |
