Jay: My 1:200 Surcouf is 27 inches long. The I-400 will be about 32 inches .

I fear nothing. I will merely hasten slowly!

Arrow Initial Construction Phases

Although there is nothing photo-worthy to report, construction of I-400 has begun as of today. All of the model sheets have been liberally sprayed with KRYLON Preserve- It and allowed to dry.

I also made copies of portions of the sheets that contain 2D details that I intend to make into 3D. These were sprayed likewise and set aside.

I find that the use of a product like Preserve-It both strengthens the basic cardstock and makes it easier to clean up the inevitable small glue messes that occur. It also provides UV protection.

Although it was expensive, the matte architectural photo stock that my printer used is, IMHO, close enough to standard 65#--80# cardstock as to be "close enough for government work".

The rescale will mean hull formers of 1.5 mm stock, and the necessity to make a joint in the longitudinal formers so as be able to fit this big bustard (a bird, native to Europe) onto such stock as I have available.

I hope to get the former laminations done in the next day or two and to start on the hull framing later this coming week.

MTF

A Minor "OOPS".....

It has been so long since I started Surcouf that I had forgotten that it was done in 1:160 scale. I-400 will be in 1:200. So it will be "only" 24 inches (60 cm) long. Someday, I am going to do her over in 1:160..

200 x 2 ft= 400 ft......Exactly, Grasshopper!

The laminations are drying in the press as this is written......

Exclamation

Bro Treadhead:

Ron0909 has my model files and is eventually going to help me resize this beast to 1:160. In retrospect, I just should have built Surcouf in standard 1:200.....but I like having figures

2 things to note:

A) PreserveIt is (supposedly) non-toxic.
B) I am 60 years old. Give me a break in case my memory might occasionally fail me. I live a rich and exciting life....

Big Snow out here.Laminations are now drying in The Press. So I am building up some armament for this beeste....

Jim, I'm impressed you chose this ship, it's truly amazing! Are you planning to make some extra additions to it? I'll be watching your progress

I habe started by building some armament, to get this out of the way.
First, the 14-cm (140 mm or 5.5 inch) deck gun........
