U.s.s. Maryland bb-46 1941
Ahoy
While i am turning to on my Lurline I wanted to share this one to great fellas. I built this scrach useing E#dward wiswesser plans. Scale of model is 1:32 scale. 17 inch,s long I built her frrom cardstock and paqper also wire, built the same way as my Lurline. The cage mast were weaved copper wire useing a circle jig. she is painted in the measure of 5d dark gray over pale gray. I built this 30 years ago, she is represented in 1941 at Pearl Harbor. Only mistake I made on the model is that didn,t paint the turrets 1,2and 4 black according to opperation rainbow five color coded war plans, I( didn,t know aqbout this until 8 years ago when there was a big debate over the the paint measdure the Arizona wore at Pearl The Arizona was the only Battlewaggon at pearl that wore the new paint measure 5s dark seablue. Reaon she had this done because she was in drydock she had a small collision with the Nevada, by that time Admiral Kimmel got orders to have his fleet painted in the new paint measure of 5s. Here is the Battlewaggon Maryland boats

This is a magnificent model of the ship named after my home state.
I have all of Ed Wiswesser's plans of U.S. British, Japanese, French, and Italian warships. He also produced plans of Reading RR locomotives and tolling stock. Don |

Nice work....surprised that it came out so well useing wisswesser plans? I have used his plans a number of times and frequently they are OFF a bit! Sometimes more than a bit!!!! Great job!!!

Mike - It is true that now Ed's plans have largely nostalgia value, but they are nice to look at, and in the 1950s they were about the best we had, short of ordering expensive Norman Ough or USN plans, and they gave a lot of us our start in model building. Boats clearly made the most of those plans. Don

Ahoy
thanks fellas for your replies on thuis old Battleship, At one time they were the pride of the navy to become a Battleship sailor. Back in those old days when you joined the navy you wanted to serve on ca batleship that was named after your State spit and polish navy it was a lot of brass was on those old ship trhe portholes were all brass and ladder ways hand rails were all brass. If you were a deckape like me you were issued a can of brasso and you polished away all day. every Tuesday you got on your kneees and holy stoned the decks with salt water, and for chow you got cornbead and navy beans, thanks fellas well baqck to the Lurline. Amazing job, Boats! Sometimes I'm tempted to stray from rockets, spacecraft and research planes and do one of the pre-war ships like Arizona or Saratoga.
Every time I see something you've done, that itch gets a bit stronger.... Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum & ex-NASA flack) |

Ahoy ju52man 1:32 is 1/384 scale half of 1/192 scale 1/192 scale is 1/16th equals 1 foot scale. half of that i always though was 1;32 or 1/384 scale. Edward wiswesser plans are drawn in two scales 1/16th or 1/384. Thank you very much for your wonderfull reply on my Maryland just to keep the model kosher up to her pearl Harbor 1941 representation i will paint the the two forward turret tops black and turret No.4 True blue. boats
