HMS Surprise 1:96 Scratch built

Hello Folks

This is my third attempt at using paper as a building material. I started with the San Salvador Galleon, then tried Fozzy the Bear's La Couronne, which was a bit of a combination of paper and wood.
This time I took on the HMS Surprise and stuck to paper, with the exception of the masts. I look forward to any constructive comments and suggestions for improvement. I will post a few during construction photos, I am still finalizing the model and have not yet decided if I will do sails or not.

HMS Surprise 1:96 Scratch build

I used foam core as the frame, this gave me some strength in the frame and more surface for glue.

I am not the greatest at taking pictures, but here is some of the canons I made and painted. Then my main deck ready to be installed over the lower deck.

I tried several different ways of doing the deadeyes suggested by others, but ended up making my own, I used black foam core, and a hole punch. then a thumb tack to punch the holes, this flattened the deadeye at the same time and was easy to thread.

The rigging I find the most time consuming, it's hard to find drawings to help show where everything should be properly placed.
But I do enjoy it and hope to keep improving, thanks to all those who posted their hints and suggestions on how they do things, they sure helped me.

Nice job, good idea with the foam core. Will be nice and light but still strong. Do you have some books to help with rigging?, this scale you are not using blocks? Several books can help with rigging or studying ships of same era in pictures..keep up the good work
