I have this one in the queue myself, so I will definitely be watching and taking notes.

Cheers, Corbin

Thank you to all for the positive response.
To those of you planning on building Beowulf someday, I hope this report is of some help.

I see you begin the project with a smart new avatar image as well.

Fiar winds and following seas on this build.

Hello Don:
Great to have yourself and JimR watching.
Its an honor for the site to have a Smithsonian model builder looking in on us.
Critique from the two of you is always welcome.

The laser-cut detail sets from HMV are indeed a treat. They are so nice and so easy to work with that I am afraid I now have several PE detail sets that are most likely out of a job - worth it in my estimation to fork out the dough and replace them with the card sets. The PE sets have finer detail, but there's no comparing wash/etch/prime/paint/cut/touch-up/glue to simply cut-and-glue.

Hi Chris:
Your words really describes the set I received with Beowulf.
I would love to see the tools and method used to make them.
Maybe they could show us with a YouTube video (if they haven't already?)

Your builds are always an inspiration to me Mike. And I am looking forward to the little side trips into history that are sure to pop up as you build the Beowulf. Awesome name for a ship too, I think.

Underwater Hull Design

Truly a magnificent job of designing the full hull on this ship. Your build is already a tutorial for someone (like me) who is just starting out in model ship-building.
I can see how you got the distance from the waterline to the keel on the frames from the plan, but I can't figure out how you determined the curve of the hull from that plan--there's nothing there to indicate it. The frames below the wateline look perfect! How did you do it?
Scratching-my-head-in-amazement.

Hello Bradford:
I hope shipbuilding winds up being as much fun for you as it is for so many here on this forum.
Regarding your question: Included in the drawings that I downloaded from the "Dreadnought Project" website, were the drawings for the cross members (19 of them). So those give the (approx.) shape of the hull.
Sorry, I didn't include an image of the crossmembers from the plans. But the ones you see on the frame in my images come directly (after resizing) from the plans.
I hope I understood your question. If not, let me know. I am always happy to elaborate further.
Mike
