nother ship, nother use of your imagination

yep...nother ship under construction, this time i finaly started the POW....hull frames laminated to illustration board which is about 1.25 or 1.40mm thick, the instructions seem to say and the mesurements confirm...glue frame parts to 1mm board, but the extra thickness seems to help more than hurt. the decks and frame pieces get glued apparently to 0.5mm board but the slot thickness says differently..anything marked with an * goes on to 1mm aprox. BUILD THE UNDERWATER PART FIRST! actualy seems easier and eliminates any warping. i'm building the underwater part in 3 sections starting with the bow. got the lower bow all framed up and 4 out of 8 planned hull skins on, leaving the last one off on the bow and the first and last ones off on the midship and the first one off the stern till i join them. to give an idea of this ship, the bow section is 15 3/8ths at the waterline and overall the model is a little over 44 inches long which makes it shorter but actualy wider than the repulse which makes me wonder if the brits used a cruiser size hull for the new ship. but the ammount and size of guns make it a battleship, to the germans it woulda been a pocket battleship. oh well..when i get one or 2 ships finished, like the sheffield and badsworth, gonna reprint and rebuild the repulse's hull so i can properly brace that up, i'll see about getting the GPM missouri...tho first things first for money, get nother 60 day WoW game card.......yeeeeeah *waddles off to find coffee*

I'm no expert but I think it is safe to say that PoW was every inch a battleship. Repulse on the other hand was in my opinion certainly a battlecruiser. Weight and distribution of armour as well as the prevailing designs in the era in which a ship was built, counts more than length alone when classifying these vessels. The Queen Elizabeth class (eg. HMS Warspite) is a battleship at 640 feet and 34000 tons and was a WW1 super-Dreadnought. At 745 feet and 44000 tons, PoW was much more than a pocket battleship.

Difficulties arise with vessels like HMS Hood which seem to fall between categories. Hood at 860 feet and 45000 tons is considered by some to be an early "fast battleship". She was rated a battlecruiser which was correct I think given the distribution of armour.

The pocket battleships you mention are also odd, being very heavy cruisers.

yeeeeeeeeah been a while... well figure i'll update with my usual words. POW's hull is complete, all 4 props on, had to make their hubs and carrier bearing bodies out of birch dowel, the rudder is glued on to 2mm board and tapered at the leading and trailing edges like the real rudder was, far fwd breakwater is installed as is 22 out of 57 large vent things..i think they're vents, not sure. still gonna continue with the tiny fiddly bits in between sessions of drawing my fat furry girl porn stuffs and hope to move on to the super structure within a couple weeks.... still trying to make the camera work, it turns on but the pix started coming out grainy but seem to be improving.

Well, I admit that's the first mammary casualty I've heard of in paper modeling! Looking forward to seeing the pictures (of the ship!).
