Hey John! Nice build.

I got one of this wooden frigates to build. Do you have any tips on curving those wooden planks?

Best regards

Ed

Ed,

As for planking the hull I used 1,5 and 2mm balsa wood, cut to strips of 5mm, and just form them along the shaped frames. Shaping the frames first is very important, otherwise the balsa strips will break on the corners. I took me a long time to figure out the ideal method for me to make a nice and smooth hull. ASHIGARA was the first model I made in this method. One thing is for sure I stick now with this method.
Hope this helps.

John.

"Coppering" is done, it took me 1,5 weeks and 1100 plates of 15 X 5 mm. I only have to spray the under hull with copper coloured paint.

Today I had planned to paint the underwater hull Copper, but something happened with my paint. I opened a new can of Revell acrylic paint, and the color was not copper, but purple, I stirred it very, very well, but it stays purple, someone an idea what could have happened with this metallic paint ??

Well....after some searching in my stuff I found still two cans of Humbrol enamel copper paint. I put on a first layer and it looks already very good. Enamel stinks a bit, but it was the only solution for me after the acrylic paint had gone "sour"
