Hey Darren!

I've been fighting with the curved edge on the forward structure. The side is angled and slightly curved from forward to aft. Sort of a nightmare to do. It might be a little tighter curve than I like but I'll leave it be for the moment.

The upper (compass) decks have been cut down to size. I started working on the upper deck casemates but that is not shown.

Thank you, John!

Starboard (forward) casemate for 10cm gun.

Dealing with deck camber means that things go up and down as they go in and out. Many checks and rechecks necessary. I believe that it looks pretty much correct. Since drawings don't show the thing I relied on photos - which I brought into Rhinos and measured and corrected for perspective and such. I'll have to design yet another gun mount for this one since it is of an age that I haven't touched before. The only other 10cm gun I've modeled was on Iéna and that one was very different.

The aft casemates have a very slightly different angle to them so I won't be able to directly use these pieces for them. They'll be a little easier after thinking this one through.

I take a lot of time to think through a process before starting work on something. I needed to understand the fit between the different pieces before trying to make them fit.

Next I guess I'll get the back casemates correct and then finish up the 10cm mounts and the big guns.

Carl

I give you credit for tackling deck camber.
Even at 1:250 scale, it is a significant.

Hi Michael! Yes, I tried deck camber on something I didn't turn into a kit - Hoche? Inflexible? Not always is it carried out to the superstructure decks so by some careful cheating a ship can be modeled without it.

I've worked in the after casemates and am recovering from mental exhaustion.

- and it will make the railings even more difficult than they are at this scale. I plan to use etching, which takes care of the issue but purchased railings are not adjusted for camber.

It was Inflexible. I don't see how you could avoid it on Valmy, but at least it a only small portion of the deck that needs it.

...still plugging away.

Moving on from casemates to make the big guns and then play with the mast.

Here's a peek behind the curtain of the designer cheating to design a mast the easy way. Plus I don't have any drawings for the mast.

Note that some scaling will need to be done.
