Heinkel 1/200th C.S.S. Virginia
Hello All,
I'm new to paper card modeling having finished a couple of airplanes. Now I wanted to try a simple ship too. I like iron clads and my mom is from Virginia so for Christmas I wanted to make her a neat model of this historic ship. I hope it turns out! So far, so good. This kit is spot on so far and the structure is nice and strong. My printer is giving me fits and the colors seem off so I'll just keep working away with the internals for now. Thanks for looking! Nice looking skeleton.
I hate it when my printer decides to print reds more towards the orange side of the spectrum and greys that look more blue than grey. All of the other colors are then off also.

Good job with skeleton
I am happy to see this model here. I have also model of this ironclad but from Orel. Wondering about the differences between. |

Hello All,
I'm moving along with the Virginia. I found a little error in the kit while putting the top formers and deck together. Not a big deal, but I think the D and E3 supports have switched labels. On the picture you see that D3 will fit much better to the E3 position connecting E1 and E2 than the longer E3 part! I just put them where they fit and all is well. They basically act as doublers for strength. Then I put the top deck on where the eventual stack will go etc. and now I'm playing with papering the hull sections. Much harder than any plane I've built so far since some of the curves are pretty extreme! I think it's going ok though and I'll post a shot once it's done...maybe tonight. Looking kind of cool I must say! Cheers, Dan |

Ha! Here is the hull all skinned. It's a bit rough but I'm still pretty pleased. It will have some touch up and now there are some paper trim pieces that go along the keel and near the deck but I was dreading this part and it's almost over...On to the picture:
Can't wait to start working on the iron clad parts! Cheers and thanks for looking, Dan |

Thanks a lot, Folks! I must say, ships are harder than airplanes so I really marvel at what you guys turn out...and this ship is a pretty simple slab-sided affair!
Anyway, I've made more progress and really need to finish up the details. Here she is as of tonight. Note that the life raft is just sitting there for show right now and I'll make a nicer stand...this one is just being used as a cradle. It looks cool now with the stack and prop as well as some air vents (or intakes?). Getting there... Cheers and thanks for looking. Dan |

fantastic result. A perfect construction of a difficult model.
