Wallace Rigby naval ships build: USS North Carolina
For the 16 inch cannons I used toothpicks,
for the masts I sanded down the toothpicks, for the spars I used 24 gauge wire, for the 5 inch guns I used the 22 gauge solid core wire I used the insulation of the 22 gauge wire for the ship tie downs/cleats for the anchor chain I used some costume jewelry from the $1 store for the AA guns and the rigging I used individual strands of 22 gauge stranded wire. Oh and teased out cotton for the smoke. |

Very nice! I've never seen this particular Rigby model before. It seems fairly accurate in proportions, and the water effect is quite noteworthy. You did a fine job on this vintage (over 70 years old, isn't it?) ship model. I'm glad to see classic Wallace Rigby kits receiving the appreciation and attention they deserve.

Wow! This may be the best-built Rigby warship I have ever seen. Very well done, Jon!

Really nice build!
And a great model. All your additions really make it stand out - that's how these old models were meant to be made!

Thank you all for your nice comments. The rigby models are some of my favorites. While some of them are really simple and are throw-away saturday morning toys for kids with empty cereal boxes, There are a bunch that with an attention to detail can be real show pieces. The USS North Carolina is one such.

I came across this thread as I was looking to see if anyone has built the JSC USS North Carolina. This looks great! I didn't know that this Rigby version existed (time to hit ebay).
Quick question: is your build from the original parts, or did you build from a scan you printed? Thanks!

That is really neat. Not a shio guy so dumb question here. Is the top of the turrets wooden like the decks or is this some form of ID marking?
