Apollo 11-12 Recovery Carrier USS Hornet CVS-12
I am expanding my search since there appears to not be a kit of the Hornet in any scale available into data to create a model of the ship in 1-350 scale. Does anyone know of or have suggestions as to where I might find line drawings, useful accurate data and such to use in this creation? This is such an important part of not only the Apollo History, but USN as well. Thanks

Have you tried searching under her other names?
The Hornet was Essex class, originally named Kearsarge CV-12. (which you likely found out) and was originally the straight deck short hull. A cursory glance from work shows both straight and angled models for the class in a variety of scales are around as the repugnant pirates have stolen them for scams and profit. Basically, any model in the CV Essex class can be made to build her. Hull and deck numbers, minor armament changes, and specific radar/antennas for the island. The CVAs and The only trick might be some extra printing and cutting if you want to have the original configuration, or the angled deck version, which is more appropriate for the Apollo recovery missions. I'll be home in a bit, so I'll dig through my archives and links for the link to the one I remember. |
