Satellite tracking ship "Kosmonavt Yuri Gagarin" - 1:200 - Oriel

I've started on the next big project - the former USSR satellite tracking ship "Kosmonavt Yuri Gagarin". Active in the Soviet space program in the 70's and 80's. A rather unusual-looking vessel.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kosmonavt_Yuri_Gagarin

It is a big full-hull model (139 cm!) with some very intricate detail. The dish antennas look pretty difficult, but I'm not there yet. Safe to say this will not be finished before Christmas. And I will be using the laser-cut framework, detail & railing sets.

Looks like all those antennae will be a challenge.

Always happy to watch you build one of your big and intricate ship models.

Thank you!

Here is the start of the internal frame. It's slightly over-engineered and robust, although I find that's good when building in a tropical climate. But I'm glad I bought the laser-cut frame set!

Thanks!

And here's the first challenging bit - the bulbous bow.

And the rest of the hull underwater. I will do the propeller last, or it may get damaged.

Hi Marco,

this is really a big project I am sure I will never try to go on by my self. Best wishes for that! The way you are tackling the hull especially the bulbous bow is amazing!
