Here is another upgrade on the Zara. Currently, I've been working on the funnels. They are two, in total and they are different from each other. I began with the forward funnel, which is more complex and that is where the trouble began.

As you can see by the pictures, the funnels do not have circular cross sections, they are ellipsoidal. Being so, the shape is given by the section reinforcements, which are these white ellipsoidal parts. So, the procedure seemed simple at first, I glued the wall of the funnel first, then used the reinforcements to give the shape. These reinforcements, however, were a lot smaller than they should be, so I had to make new ones.

Another one of the pictures shows a lot of those elliptical sections. I kept making them larger and larger, until I reached the right size. Aside from that, the funnel making process wasn't so hard, and I'm quite happy with the results. In the pictures, you can see the construction process for both funnels and the final result.

Good evening, my friends. Here is another update on the Zara. I decided to go for the main superstructure. It will surely give the hull a better look and give me the incentive to keep building. The first part is the bridge, along with several walkways.

It is quite tall and the several floors are reinforced by four inclined tubular beams. Those masts pierce every single floor of the superstructure, so, we need to have a perfect alignment between the holes on each floor.

For the tubular beams, i have build it my usual way. Some of the pictures illustrate that process. Firstly, I use a pencil or any cylindrical object to curve the paper. Then I fold and glue (only the flaps). I leave it to rest under a slightly heavy object. At this point, it isn`t cylindrical yet. I use a drill, on the right size to expand the flat cylinder and insert it on the structure (with the drill still attached to it). When it is in position, I remove the drill and put a little glue to fix the positioning on the holes.

Do that four times, and make sure the cilyndrical supports are aligned. Don't worry much about the alignment on top, it can be adjusted afterwards with sandpaper. It is more important to level it on the deck of the ship. Luckily, it fitted quite nicely on the deck markings, as you can see by the final pictures.

She's becoming quite a beauty!

I'm sorry for the upside down pictures. I try to straight them up and rotate them on the computer, but they end up the same way on this thread. Any hints to solve that?

Very nicely done! And thank you for the map through the mine fields. I would like to build this ship, in the not too distant future. I will feel a bit more confident with the tips you have provided.
