Regulus fishing trawler - 1:100 - Fly Model
Happy New Year everyone!
After a few excursions in other materials (most notably a wooden Cutty Sark with all sails in scale 1:78) I'm back to building paper, and the shipyard is open again! I've had the 1:100 Regulus fishing trawler by Fly Model on my stash for several years now, and finally got around to it. This is not a beautiful ship, but should make for a beautiful model, if that makes any sense. There is a lot of impressive detail in this kit. No lasercut sets are available (apart from standard railing sets), so the details and frames will all go in the old-fashioned way. As far as I know no-one on this forum has posted a build report of this model before.

Great stuff Marco!
Great to see you starting another ship model... I actually have the Regulus unmade. With your expert work before me, I will probably never do it now! --------------------- I used to model in wood all the time - I then became allergic the sawdust from some of the exotic woods and that was my ship modelling in wood kaput! Still have 3 unfinished - a fishing boat, a whaler, and the Bounty.

Thank you!
And actually, I built a few parts of this model previously - I scanned and re-scaled the lifeboats and bridge interior to improve my SD-14.

Hello Marco:
Nice to see a new year project from you. What did you think of the experience with your wood Cutty Sark? Mike |

Mike: it was nice to build a wooden ship again. They look amazing, and making the rigging is easier than on a paper model - less fragile. The Cutty Sark itself was less challenging than many navy vessels - no guns and gunports to deal with. I used the Sergal kit, it's closest to the original ship.

Marco: Good to see the excellent photos. Those are three fine looking ships you have displayed there. Most of us here are familiar with the difficulties of paper modeling. But I think also the efforts needed to produce fine wood models can be appreciated as well. Thanks for providing some detail of your experience.
