Great model and it sure shows that whoever designed the real one had a good understanding of the "steampunk" aesthetic.

Ah, yes...but back then it wasn't 'steampunk.'
It was just 'steam'....

I appreciate the kind words.

I am not a ship guy by any stretch of the imagination, but following this build has me almost convinced that I could do one of these more detailed models, and I just love the overall look of this boat

I'm looking for drawings of the sidewheel steamer 'Lady Elgin,' that was famously lost in Lake Michigan in 1860 following a collision with another vessel during a gale. Part of the lesser-known history of Chicago, where I grew up...and really interesting lines for a ship of that era.

That's an amazing 'modern' ship for 1860. Being from Kansas City, I'm more familiar with the Missouri River steamboats that remind me of being the 'old farm truck' of the River. Probably the most famous these days is the Arabia, because it was found and dug up and so much of its contents are displayed in the Arabia museum. There is nothing sleek about it. It was a workhorse, not meant to be glamorous.

This seems more like something you would see in the late 1800s. Good luck with it. I like to see it memorialized in paper
