014 - Canon installé en barbette

Hello to all: Some progress to report.
The 340mm Barbette gun assemblies are labor intensive. Here are some images to show the current state of the work. The first image is an excellent view of the “wood” composition of the barrels themselves, with paper trim rings added. All the other parts of the assemblies are paper, with a small amount of card used in the circular base. Three of them need their canopies, before they can be placed aboard the ship.

I really like the old photo (Image 100). It is a good clear image, and it reveals so much detail around the stern deck of the ship.

Kind Regards,
Mike

Those are beautifully executed barbette guns, and I appreciate the historic image that shows how they looked in situ on the original ship.

015 - Canon installé en barbette et bateaux d'embarquement

Thanks Don, JP, Rifleman, Fred and David! I appreciate having you all aboard.

The 340mm Barbette guns are completed and have been installed.
I am working on a few things that will need to be done before the “fortress walls” can be installed.
At the stern of the superstructure there are boat storage areas that will need to be finished first.
So some of the auxiliary boats are being assembled now. Included is an overhead drawing showing the configuration for several of the boats. I used this drawing as a template. Each of the French warships I have built in the past have had auxiliary boats with hull colors matching their superstructures. However, one can see in the last (vintage photo), these hulls are clearly white. This image shows two being maneuvered by the davits, and one in the water.

The boat thwarts/frames are card, while the hulls and other parts are paper. Note: The oars on the two finished boats are laser cut card.

Kind Regards,
Mike

Beautiful boats!

The superstructure really was a fortress wall, wasn't it?
