016 - Bateaux d'embarquement
Hello Builders,
Progress has been made to create the framework needed for boat storage in the area just forward of the stern mast. I used the drawing in image 130 as my guide. It shows storage of two boats on one side, and three other. I’ll follow that pattern. The frame for the port side with three boats in it is made of card laminated to double thickness. It worked out well. Three of the 9-meter boats fit nicely. Included is an excellent vintage photo showing the full length of the ship during boat deployment. Hi there Mike!
Really amazing skills at display here. Almost unbelievable that this is a scratch build! Your Neptune is coming along nicely. -Radek

Superb work on the boats and their stowage! As always, the historical image is a big help and a pleasure to see.

Just a question Michael, if you don't mind.
How does it work lifting the upper sloop and then tilting the cranes. Arent the boats still in position in the way? I don't get it, besides I don't recognize the model from the picture with its superstructure. Great build by the way! |

MR Mash, Sir. Magic. You and Mr Kipling have a lot in common.

Thanks Mike. I assume you are referring to "Radek's" story. It is a lot of fun . . . I hope you are enjoying it. Ab . . . to your question . . . I don’t know the answer to that one. But I have noticed on many of the ships of this era, the same arrangement of the davits and the boats. One wonders how the boats were swung out over the water with the davits positioned as they are, seemingly obstructing the path. My guess is the davits are able to rotate, so perhaps by rotating the bow first, then the stern, they are able to get the boats on the outside, and over the water. Perhaps someone here reading this knows how the procedure works. Mike Last edited by Michael Mash; 11-03-2021 at 05:46 AM. Reason: Spelling corection |

Thanks Ab!
Thanks Glen. Yes, by the time this project gets to the finish line, it should be carrying between 12 and 16 auxiliary boats. |
