Neptune

You could finesse the entire problem of what to call it and stick to French – it’s a cuirassé whether it’s an ironclad or a battleship.

Perfect. And I agree.
That is the word used by those who built it.
Merci Maurice.

Good luck Michael. It is not a simple design. Now I am designing the Redoutable which is from the same family.

Slow work, take your time!

French ships, end XIXth century, were obsolete as soon as being completed or close to be so, especially Neptune and Magenta, for having been on keel too much time.

Redoutable

The French Maritime Museum displayed until the early 2000's a contemporary 1/66 model of the Redoutable, a bit too far away from the window, along with Hoche, before she was suddenly removed to be stored somewhere in the storeroom, in the fort d'Issy. By that time, I could only take some shots with an analog camera, under poor light. The place where it could be seen remained empty until the Museum was closed, prior to a general refit of the collections. Will it reappear in Paris when the Museum open again in 2022, unless being displayed somewhere else, in Brest or so? However, I could admire not long time ago the model of the Dévastation, full-rigged, 1/66, in the Maritime Museum in Rochefort, I couldn't stop taking some pictures of.

Hello Renaud,

The underwater hull will require 2 to 3 months of work to complete.
It is a lot of work, and I am a slow builder.
So, there is plenty of time to search for more Neptune information.

Merci beaucoup.
Votre travail est apprécié.

12 – Lower Hull Frame

Thank you all for giving Neptune a warm reception. When I began to line up the frames with the deck, it became clear I had made an error in the design of the frames. Image (007) shows the frame being slightly short for the width of the deck. 11 of the 24 frames needed correction. Assembly of the lower hull frame has been completed.

Kind Regards,
Mike

Very precise work on the frames, Mike. With the deck screwed down to the work board, you have a very stable situation for the hull construction.

Thank You Don.
Yes, a good straight piece of fiberboard helps keeps things in line.
