Wow Mike, your Neptune looks fantastic! Such a wonderfully built model with so many interesting details to discover. The holes in the davits for instance, so evenly drilled. Congratulations! I agree with the remark made by paperairforce regarding the colors. Very appealing.

Cheers,
Erik

Hello Mike,
you have created another ship masterpiece. Obsessed with the construction of Beowulf, I came across your post late, but that doesn't stop me from looking at it with great interest for several days and admiring your talent. I wish you to gather our eyes again with a new interesting model.
Greetings Lachezar.

036 – Bossoirs et Canots (Davits and Boats)

A warm thank you Don, YankeeBoy, Paperairforce, Rmks2000, Erik, Ab, Glen and Lachezar. I am glad you liked that last group of photos.

Those previous images covered the port stern side. Images 281, 282 and 283 cover the starboard stern side.

Next: The tall Bossoirs (Davits) near the aft mast have stood empty since they were installed in December of 2022. Now the starboard side gets an 11 meter boat (37.5 feet), and the port side gets the steamer.
With the addition of the steamer, there are 14 boats hung or stored aboard Neptune.

Images 287 and 288 (Vintage Photo) present a comparison between the model and the original. In image 287, I attempted to photograph the model close to the same angle as the vintage photo. Then I edited away the underwater hull.

Best Regards,
Mike

Absolutely magnificent, Mike. The more you look at these images, the more there is to see.

I enjoyed pouring over the image of your model and the actual ship in the same pose. It looks like the aft davits are swung outboard because the pullling boats are in the water or in the process of being launched.

Don

Thank you Wolfgang, Mike1158, Doug and Don.

Don: Yes, most of the images taken with the ship at anchor seem to show the pulling boats being launched, or already in the water.
Thanks to your sharp observations, I have a good excuse to share two more vintage photos with you.
One shows the boats swung outboard, and one shows them stowed inboard. That stern view in the first image is particularly dramatic.
