Th onlywrship I know is ismackand on that the cataut was tucked safely between the superstructures. I always thought that must be the common practice. Like I said this just shows how little I know of battleships. ;-) Now that you've explained it it makes perfect sense. You live and you learn.

Another outstanding build of Yours, Michael!

Those Ironclads were so unique, always reminds me of Jules Verne fiction.

Dang! My keyboard is killing me... My previous post should start: "The only warship I know is Bismarck and on that the catapult is tucked safely..."

29 – Guns, Lanters and Steampipes

Thank you Tappi and Sharunas. Glad to have you aboard.

I have been laboring around the mid-ship area, so these photos will show some progress.

Image 221: Lots of small parts, including those needed for the 47mm guns to be installed above the midship 12-inch (305mm) gun turrets. In the lower right is the result of experimentation with various davit configurations. Since the torpedo boats will not be located within reach of the ship’s cranes, davits that are capable of holding and launching the torpedo boats were needed.

Image 222: The Midship Lanterns were created on page 8 of this thread. The access ladders (laser cut) have now been added, making them ready for installation (Images 223 and 224).

The 47mm guns located above the 305mm midship guns will have more shielding than any of the other 47mm guns. Image 225 shows those along with the steampipes. All the gun parts and steampipe parts are made from paper.

The final two images are overviews showing those components installed.

Warm Regards,
Mike

30 – Weather frames, Ladders and Ventilators

Hello Builders,
Here is a new group of photos to bring this project up to date.

Regarding gangway weather protection frames: One can see such things in the vintage photos of the old battleships and other types of vessels. If the builder is willing to spend the time, paper makes an excellent material for creating them, and they add much to the detailed appearance of the project. I make them around a balsa wood jig. After assembly and painting them, I then cut them free of the jig.
The ladders and frames have been installed just aft of the stern turret (images 238 and 239).

Small and Large ventilators have been made. In image 240 one can see the parts. On the left are the bowls made of wood, and the remaining parts are made of paper. The final image shows installation on the port side.

Best Regards,
Mike

31 – Cranes

Hello Crafters,

I have documented some recent construction with a few images, to update this project.

Ulfberht will be equipped with two cranes to service the aircraft and boats.
They have rotational capability, and are removable.
The first three images feature the parts, all made of paper.

Image 246 shows the operator platforms in the foreground. The two on the right are the ones that passed inspection.

Image 247 is a test fit of the towers. This image gives a good perspective of where they fit relative to the rest of the ship.

I finished with Image 248, after attaching the operator platforms to the crane towers.
Note in this final image, the ladders and black hooks are laser cut.

Best Regards,
Mike
