Top-level steamer Schaarhörn - HMV - 1:250
Hello glue,
my next side project will be HMV's Schaarhörn top-level steamer. I've had this sheet for a long time (1999), but now it's my turn, I also have the etched parts set with me. On two sheets of paper you will find 334 parts in the usual HMV quality, plus four pages of picture instructions. I will build the ship with removable underwater hull. And off we go, glue the base plate to the glass plate ... and put on the middle support 2 Sincerely Kurt |

It has that look which my Mom would have described as "very nautical".

Hi Don and anybody else who might be interested in the purpose of this little Ship.
In 1907 the government of the city state of Hamburg wanted a ship for representation purposes. Knowing about the maritime enthusiasm of the emperor Wilhelm II they expected him to come for a visit and their ship therefore needed to be worthy of carrying the Kaiser on a trip through the seaport of Hamburg. In order to get the city's Senate to cough up the means for building and upkeep of the Scharhoern it was officially procured as a sounding and inspection steamer ("Peil- und Bereisungsdampfer") for the port and stream authority of Hamburg. After a long career, mostly in her role as a sounding ship, for different owners and government authorities, in 1990 she was bought back and restored by the City of Hamburg as a museum ship. Only since then is she being used as an excursion steamer to take tourists on short pleasure trips. She can also be chartered for private events.
