Thanks Corey, welcome here !
I assembled the barge and manufactured the equipment and tools shown on board. This is preceded by a wealth of research. I found a description of how the structure works: Before There Were Satelloons: Prof. Thaddeus SC Lowe And The Union Army Balloon Corps – greg.org ... corps.html portable hydrogen gas generators My version: Regards, Joe

Thanks Vermin king and Bob !
The work continued. The balloon was ready and took off with Professor Lowe ... The wires were a little thick, but that's the only way the balloon could hold it. Serving soldiers are still being prepared. The full scene will be completed soon. Regards,Joe

Nice work Joe.
This will add some more interest to your diorama. It is also fun to see the antique photo. Mike |

The photographs of Prof. Thaddeus Lowe's balloon operations in the Civil War were taken by Matthew Brady (or his assistants). There is a sequence of about half a dozen showing the operation. Prof. Lowe also scored a first in sending Lincoln the first telegraph message from an aerial conveyance.
Joe, great model work, congratulations. Derek |
