The catwalks that line the flight deck are finally done. By the way, the kit uses exactly the number of "boxes" and fire hose reels as are printed on the sheet (Parts 88 thru 92).

Perhaps, as a later project, I could do a C-130 scaled to 1/250. I used to work with the C-141 and never knew there was a C-142.

There are four little decks for range finders, one range finder per pair of guns. I was going to take a group photo but forgot until the first was already glued into place... Still, this can count as a group photo.

There are many "boxes" that go around the ship, mostly on the outside of the railings. I believe these would contain life preservers, or maybe life rafts.


And now I need help... During normal sailing, which side of those gun directors (final photo) point outward? I have looked at some photos of the real ship but can't tell since they are all so far away.

And also, when I get the guns done, which way do the barrels point during normal sailing? I believe I saw them parallel to the hull, the aft ones point aft and the front ones point forward?

Hello,

The last few weeks have been working things like the range finders, antenna mounts, and the eight guns.

The antenna mounts are made so they can be hinged to allow raising and lowering the antennas. I chose to glue mine in the raised position because I figured that many loose parts would have some antennas sagging while the ship was on display.

The guns took a little while. They are also designed to move -- the barrels can be raised and lowered and the gun can be swiveled. But again, I chose to glue the parts into place.

I won't be mounting the antenna "whiskers" until close to finishing the model because I don't want to be breaking them off.

Next comes a crane and some anchors.

Hello!

These are the last of the hull details and now I've glued them into place.

Next comes the island. There are two masts with all sorts of small parts, and I find making masts to be somewhat tedious, so I'm going to do the masts first.
