Beautiful hull JP.
I enjoyed reading the details or your work with it. The more effort, the better the result. Mike |

Hello to all paper modelers !!!
There are some (few) news about the model of the USS Brooklyn... First of all, I have used the Tamiya acrilic spray "dull red" to recolor the bottom part of the hull, giving a bit more dark gloss red.. After this, I have glued, the bridges made by a very thin wood layer, designed with laser engraving (a deck kit that I bought together with the ship's paper kit). This is the first time that I'm using something of different from paper for cover the deck' surfaces. The result is not so bad... and a bit lighter than the deck printed on paper.. After the deck, I have started to build all the secondary artillery that will be positioned inside the hull' sponson and casemates... leaving the shields opened, all the secondary gunnery will be enough visible. So I have built 12 x 127 MM guns + 12 x 47 mm rapid-fire guns that will be glued at their sides, once closed the lateral, upper sides of the hull. And so... here few pics of the actual status of the model.. Happy paper-modeling !! ciao Jp

Hello JP:
That is very fine work. Both the 127mm and the 47mm guns are nicely crafted. You packed a lot of details into those very small assemblies, and they are all uniform, like they came out of the same factory. Particulary nice are the brass fittings on the 127mm units. I hope you don’t mind if I try to make my guns appear more like yours. Mike |

Hi all
having a bit of free time (once time...) I have completed the closing of lateral parts of the upper part of the hull of the Brooklyn. I'm quite satisfied about the result, but I have found a 2 mm "gap" in closing the stern.. the total length of the sum of the pieces of the lateral sides was about 1 mm shorter than the length of the waterline and the upper deck. So I had to compensate the gap by filling white glue + a thin strip of white paper. Here a couple of pics showing the actual status of the hull P.S. the hull ironclad belts at middle-ship and along the waterline are not yet glued... Happy paper-modeling to everybody ciao Jp

Hi to all paper modelers worldwide !!
The model of USS Brooklyn (ACR-3) is going on, slowly, but constantly... This time, the next pics, are showing the actual staus of the model, in 1:200 scale. All the secondary artillery (both 127 mm and 47 MM quick-firing) have been positioned in their sponsons and casemates, along the hull broadsides I left all the shelters opened, in order to take "a look" of each gun (for what is visible through such narrow apertures) and I started also to build the main deck superstructures. Here (on all the main deck and also in the forecastle) there will be a lot of particulars ans structures... a very big mess of vents, funnels, and many other elements.. Building will be not so simple, but I'll try to do my best.. Now, I hope you'll like the following pics. have an happy paper-modeling and ..take care !! ciao Jp

Those fold down ports/covers/shields around the secondary guns in the hull are a thing I hadn't known about, interesting, quite interesting.
Ships of this style/period, which I really don't know all that much about, sure do have a certain aesthetic appeal.

Hello JP:
The details and doors around the gun ports are wonderful. That required a lot of work, but it was worth the effort. All of the fine elements of the guns (seen in your earlier photos) will remain visible. I agree with you . . . old battle cruisers like this one have many distinctive antiquated characteristics. That is why I love them. Always great work. Mike |

Such a beautiful build. Internal gun deck is clean and crisp. The casemate guns look real.
Curious though, did you get over sprsy on your patio deck rail. |
