A small digression

Before I show you the finished Van Galen, I'd like to write just a few words, do a small digression.
I've always loved ships and the everything what's connected with the sea. In the 1960s, I even wanted to join the navy but eventually, I ended up as a truck driver in the army.
Anyway, the passion for ships has remained. When it comes to the paper models, I often choose vessels that are not bigger than destroyers because of the limited space I have. Small scales are just not for me. The ship has to be in 1/200 scale or something bigger. Then I can really enjoy working on it.

When I have the opportunity, I also like to vist various maritime museums. Everytime I'm in Gdynia, I just have to see ORP Błyskawica (H34), even though I've been there so many times...

Hr. Ms. Van Galen (Admiralen-class destroyer) / USS Leutze DD-481

Here are two more photos, with USS Leutze DD-481 (Fletcher-class destroyer) in the same scale, 1/144.

I use the tailor threads, and white glue to stiffen them later. When you apply the white glue, it's important to leave the handrails to dry for at least 24 hours. Then I paint them with the acrylics and that makes them more solid too.

Brilliant work - and thanks for posting your method with the rails, I was reading the build and was going to ask you.
I do have another q though - how did you go about resizing the kit? Did you walk into a copy shop and just explain what you want? Or you had to tell them what to do to get the right result? Or maybe you have a fancy home scanner and printer?
Regards,
Alan

Destroyers carrying aircraft are a rare thing from what I've seen. Model turned out handsomely. Photo of preserved DD in camouflage paint is interesting.

Great Result! Not to be confused with Van Halen, of course

Cheers,
Erik
