Howdy Folks,
Lots of little knot tying today. The nylon thread springs out straight when trying to get it wrapped around those thin cross bars...or whatever they are called. I need an illustration reference showing how to run the lines to and from the sails. Searching the Internet hasn't been much help. BP |

You might want to treat yourself to a copy of “The rigging of ships in the days of the spritsail topmast, 1600 - 1720” (catchy title, isn’t it) by RC Anderson. It was written in the 1920’s and remains one of the best sources of rigging details of the time.
The dates are a bit later than the San Salvador but rigging was very conservative and slow to change. It’s long out of print I think but a quick search found lots for sale online. Might be available in Barnes and Noble in the USA. |

I don't do ships much, and never rigging, but I love reading about those who can and do, so I read a lot of ship threads. Since I haven't applied anything on rigging, except on the Setubune over five years ago, I don't remember what I discovered from the threads on what material to use. I do remember reading that nylon was hard to work with.
You might try to PM some of the masters or go back and re-read some of their threads

Don't let the original date discourage you. AFAIK it's been reprinted by Dover, who seldom lets a title get out of catalog.

San Salvador Completed
Howdy,
Rigging is finished after spending fun hours many of which were spent researching the Internet attempting to find appropriate rigging references. BP |
