San Salvador

San Salvador paper models are*FREE of charge*by the Maritime Museum of San Diego,

Printed on 110Lb letter size card stock
except for the masts that were printed on regular 20 LB paper.

Photos:

1. Sometimes I spend an evening just cutting out parts creating a
stack.

2, It is almost fascinating to see what they become.

3. Front View

4. Left Rear View

5, Sails are next. Printed onto tracing paper.

Thumbs up

Looks really good.
Yes,it is fascinating to see a bunch of 2D paper parts turn into something like that ship. Sometimes the parts layout on the uncut sheets are a work of art.

I've wanted to do this for a long time. The number of parts scared me off

Thanks guys, not too shabby a model build for an airplane guy?

Photos # 1,2,3,
A few in-process snap shots may be of interest;
Photo # 4 rolled masts, the two red -xed parts are extra.
Photo #5 Masts given a protective clear acrylic coating prior to inserting wood dowels.
Photo # 6 Crows Nests
Photo #7 Upholstery thread Rat line assembly using the glued down bolt method. Notice, attempt at cutting out paper spaces done just out of curiosity.
Photo #8 Rolled over masking tape helps hold onto many small parts; still a few manage to get away.

I'm really think I aught to build that again, the last one had a mishap with a collared dove that got into the house.

Great model, and good publicity for the museum and the model.

Thank you Bob for sharing.
I have some questions.
What would be the scale of the ship?
Is this the museum by the Star of India?
I would love to drop by and visit all those ships including the Midway, once we can!

Of course Bob had a head start with his excelent construction since the model was designed by Roman Detyana of Digital Navy.
