Altmark (tanker) - 1:250 - HMV
Following up to my build of HMV's drydock, I am now building the tanker/supply ship Altmark to eventually go in it.
The original ship, built between 1936 and 1938, supplied the battleship Admiral Graf Spee, and was at the centre of the Altmark Incident (1940), in which the Royal Navy rescued 299 POWs from the ship in neutral Norwegian waters. The ship was eventually renamed Uckermark, and sunk in Yokohama in 1942. The model, designed by Peter Brandt, is highly detailed, and I have the photoetched detail set to go with it.

Look forward to it - a nice model reflective of the period Marco!

I have been waiting for this. Not only will it make a spectacular display in its drydock, but it is a good-looking and famous ship. I remember reading The Altmark Affair when it was published in 1955.

And of course I will be building the full hull version - starting with the frames.

The hull is quite elegant, the superstructure is a bit more utilitarian. Finished with the frames, on with the skin.

The hull structure is a work of art in and of itself.
