Interesting debate. I have taken part in painting a real ship myself. But I guess the size of my brush was miniscule on that scale. I may just try out some of these techniques in rough to see which I like. Bear in mind, I am trying to build waterline, using two copies of the original printed ship.

Thanks everyone.

I did a 1/200 HMS Iron Duke and painted it with water based acrylics. My brush strokes are visible close up but from a distance it looks ok.

Sounds very similar to my little project. I would be interested to hear how the decking worked. Was the deck just flat card, or was it textured in some way?

I have now taken delivery of the card model itself, plus the laser cut detailing kit, which is also made by GPM (and bought from Marcle Models). The latter seems to replace all the paper parts that need to be laminated, with identical parts already laser cut from the correct thickness of card. This includes not only structural parts, but also items like the decks of ship's boats. I guess there is a choice here whether to use just the laser part and paint it, or to glue the original printed part on top. What looks like a set of etched brass railings is also included. I will have to work out where they go 😊

As expected, the instructions for the main kit are all in Polish. The detailing kit has none at all. I thought this needed improving, so I typed all the Polish into 3 different online translators. I have attached the resulting English instructions. They are bound to be a little inaccurate, but already look a lot better than no instructions at all. Hopefully they will be helpful to someone. Is there anywhere on this site to drop this kind of central resource?

Wilco. I am sure I can find that. Sorry for the slow reply. I didn't somehow get notified of your post.

Thanks very much for the Lion instruction translation, a great help. I have made a start on this model and constructed the hull (waterline) in plastic card for more strength and to get the curves right, hope your build is going well!
