Well Jim, hats of the you for taking on this classic!
I’ll be watching with admiration. Great pics y the way, and thanks for passing on the tips. By the way, not really clear what you mean by making the slots longer means exactly. Regards, Alan |

Thanks for the comments Alan. The slots thing is that the designers of models lay out perfect parts but we humans can't make perfect parts. Sum of our slots are too long and some too short. If two short slots are mated the part won't fit properly. So by trying to make them too long, which does no harm, at least the probability of short ones is reduced. Just starting to lay the hold-floor/double-bottom-cover. The rectangular openings at the sides are sumps and the middle is for the echo sounder. The hexagonal hole is for a structural pillar. The rest are manholes. cheers Jim |

You are making good progress.
I will close the tank tops, maybe leave the side open as Marco did. cheers Jim |

The forepeak is done. A definite progress point.
Next comes the first transverse bulkhead. It is corrugated so will be a challenge to build. cheers Jim |

The major box beams seem to be a good stopping point for today.
The hatch opening measures 203mm across the inner corners. Close enough to square for me. cheers Jim |

Making slow progress at merchant ship speed.
After putting in some of the floor beams I tried a little test fitting of the floor plates. It turns out that I had put the #1 hold access ladder in the wrong place. It didn't line up with its access opening. Fortunately it was fairly easy to move it at this stage, there being good access now. Some more transverse beams need to be in place before the last line of floor plates can be glued down. cheers Jim |

This is a huge job!!
Great progress, thanks for putting on plenty of pics. If ever there was a model screaming to be a cut-away surely this is it. All that internal strengthening has to be seen to be appreciated! Excellent build log too! Regards, Alan |

VERY impressive! A reflection of the great age of LCL ship building.
And a good save on the No. 1 hold access ladder. Don |
