Hello to all paper modelers !!

In the last period, unfortunately in a very slow way, I continued the work on the RN AFFONDATORE model.

I have to say that, actually, the model is quite near to be completed... are still missing some standing rigging (I'm waiting for the delivery of a metal wire to use for this purpose) and also the ship a-blades propeller.

So the model will be terminated.. i have just to add a good stand and build (like for other models) a transparent plexiglass case.

I have improved a bit the kit, adding to the ships boats some roars and working on the rigging. I hope you'll like the result.

Was this model simple to build ? (related to other models as the Brooklyn or the Borodino or the Admiral Nakhimov or the SMS Sachsen) ... Indeed it took less time to be built, but the work was not so light and so simple as you can imagine, looking at the kit... that in any case was wonderfully drawn by the designer.

Anyway, this ship, that has a particular place in the old Italian Kingdom Navy, could not be missed to my own collection of "particular" and "unusual" ship models.

I promise that, once completed with all the last parts and case, I'll take a last shots of pics to show the RN AFFONDATORE at her best.

Have a nice paper modeling time and enjoy !!

ciao from Italy !

Jp

Hello JP:
Nice images of your RN Affondatore, almost finished. You added nice details to the boats.
I am looking forward to the last shots of pics to show her at her best.

She is a beauty JP, and quite a vessel, I wonder how frenetically crazy it would be to clear away for action!?

Very well done. It can be difficult to get the shrouds and ratlines to sit well, but yours are perfect!

Very nice build. I really like this period of ships.

JP, as you are living in Italy, do you know of any available model kits of the Doge's Bucintoro in Venice?

Hi, Bob

Unfortunately, about the Bucintoro, I don't know any paper model available on the market or by amateurs..
Just seen in museum and in some exhibition models of this boat made "in traditional" materials (mainly wood)
I think you can find many pics of the models, looking around Internet, but no paper model at all (seems a model a bit difficult to build)

Ciao

Jp

RN AFFONDATORE - completed !

Hello to all paper modelers !

Here are the pics of the completed model of the Italian turret ram RN AFFONDATORE (1865) in 1:200 scale, made in paper.

It was a very peculiar and very fun model to make, even if it is not really simple and, in any case, there are as always some construction errors (some visible, others not so ..)

For the first time, unlike other models previously built, I did not repaint parts of the model (such as the bottom hull) leaving as much as possible the original colors of the Heinkel Models kit, with all the considerations relating to color tones used by the designer (and, perhaps, modified by the printer)

The only components of the model made of a material other than paper are the standing rigging and the "running" ones made of 0.2 and 0.25 mm metal wire (with the exception of the ratlines which are all made entirely of paper), the chains of the anchors (also in metal) and flagpoles (the upper part).

The case is built in 2.5 mm transparent plexiglass and has been glued by hand (you can see from the gluing lines ...) but it is suitable for protecting the model over time.

Now, all that remains, is to start thinking about the next challenge.

Greetings and have fun with paper modeling !

Ciao
Jp

Nice to see the final images of RN Affondatore. I think Mr. Heinkel will approve.
I send compliments on the fine details you created for the auxiliary boats. And of course, the paper ratlines are an excellent detail not seen very often.
