uss vesuvius (1888)

this is my interpretation of the dynamite cruiser uss vesuvius of 1888.

the 1/250 model is available from urban kartonmodelle (download).

rigging is stretched sprue, p.e. railings and anchor chains by hmv, crew by preiser.

Nice looking model! What is the surface that looks so much like clear water?

gentlemen,

thanks for your kind comments.

@dan: the surface is a textured glass plate sitting on my usual blue foto background. these are available with different structures, so you may cover some range of the beaufort scale. btw they look more realistic on a gray background.

Beautiful work Michael. I like this old cruiser. I couldn't help but notice the gun barrels poking out from beneath the deck. I have not seen that before.

Those were "dynamite guns." They were operated pneumatically and threw hunks of dynamite. Kind of cool but extremely inaccurate.

Very nice build, Michael. Good period to build in!
