You really do your research.
What are the 'wires' that are protruding from the upper deckhouse? Regards, Alan |

These are the guy wires for the funnels - the colour scheme for the deck is kind of complicated. Some pics show them white, some brown, some brown at the base with white top. My assumption is that the first scheme was the brown one with yellow cowls like the famous painting by Claus Bergen suggests in the first years of service.

Excellent job!
Was just looking at the actual doors to the bridge - unusual to have 2 doors, and that they are raised in the middle like that. Would have been fascinating to see the interior of the real thing to see how Bridges were laid out in those days. Judging by the shape of the Bridge windows and the doors it might have been unusual.. I'm wondering what the 5 silver 'loops' are that protrude forward over the bridge wing are? Regards, Alan |

The "loops" are the supports of the awnings for the canvas shield that could be tausend (cf. picture behind the officer)

Compare the doors with the picture taken from the Columbus brochure from 1924 and you will see: indeed, no sliding doors but a double door configuration. And of course, the doorstep is raised. Any old salt knows that it is to prevent spray water from sipping in. We are on a ship, not on land.

the funnels are in place and the steam pipes and whistles added. The builder's description from Werft-Reederei-Hafen clearly says that there were two whistles: one fore and one aft. Pictures and paintings from the early phase show two whistles fore, though. So I think the third must have been added quite early. All the 20 vents in the Bridge Deck give me a hard time. Most can be seen one way or other in publicity pictures, others must be constructed accoring to the builder's plans and own idea.
