USS Coronado (LCS-4)
Continuing my build of small-scale ships in an attempt to get my modeling chops back, I tackled the USS Coronado, an Independence-class littoral combat ship. It was commissioned in 2014 and decommissioned just this September.
I think the model is by Chiawatkom (thanks!) and I’m not sure of the scale, but the finished model measures 21.5cm long. I added a scratchbuilt mast, CIWS and other details. As it comes, the model is a rather monochromatic gray. If you’ve seen pictures of the Independence-class ships, you can see their hulls and superstructures weather quite dramatically, giving them a mottled and streaked appearance. I tried replicating the look with a color marker. While the result was a bit restrained, it was as far as I was willing to go. I need to head to the hardware store and get a can of clear flat to spray the model with. No idea if it is in the same scale as the Zumwalt-class destroyer I built, but I thought I’d throw both in the same photo. Is anyone aware of a small-scale Freedom-class LCS? I’m dying to model one with the dazzle camouflage…. Thanks for looking! |

Was on the acquisition studies for them. Best job ever. |
