HMS Dido 1:250 Scale, MM 4-5/88

Time for another ship build.

The model is of HMS Dido a Royal Navy light cruiser from WW2

Despite being printed on the usual quality paper of the period. It's not too bad to work with. Once you are familiar with its quirks.

I find myself using snap-off blades for cutting out. Seem to work better than my usual scalpel blades

The hull has built up really nicely. Needed to dampen the paper prior to forming any curves.

Did you consider scanning the kit and then printing on a newer paper? Looks good mate.

Yes, the paper just needs to be treated carefully.

Update:

All the big bits are now fitted.

Still having fun with the paper. Having to soak it in water to soften it, prior to forming. Even then some parts 'crack' - all good fun

Despite this it's not a bad model and it's going together well.

Update:

All the major parts are now assembled.

The turrets were a bit tricky and I ended up making the best of a bad job.

Masts and railings next

Belated kudos on this excellent (as always) build of a famous ship. To my eye, the Didos and Bellonas were particularly beautiful warships.

If you have the time and inclination to do so, I would be grateful if you would provide a close up image of one of the motor boats, which look something like 36-foot motor pinnaces?
