Modelik USS Seawolf Conversion! 1/200th

All,

I got a chance to tour the USS Jimmy Carter a while ago so for Christmas, I want to make a paper model of this ship for the person who got me on board. The closest thing I could find was the "Seawolf" which is of the same class (I think...I'm an airplane guy so out of my realm here!).

It seems that the JC is basically the SW with 30m additional space for lots of listening equipment. You can see how far I've gotten thus far. The white paper is the scale additional 30m (15 cm) and it all seems to fit. I'll be filling and sanding things and also repainting so that's why you see some roughness in the nose. I'm pleased, though. So far, so good.

I can't wait to get the sail on as right now, she looks like a B-29!

Cheers and thanks for looking...Dan

Interesting project, Dan! It looks like you have the conversion well underway.

Thanks, Don. This has put the Albatros on a slight hold at the moment.
I'm amazed that everything is actually fitting so far. I'm shooting to finish the hull today. Then it's all about filling and painting!

I hope Christmas time is going well for you two and the family.

That's interesting Dan! Variety is the spice of life, as they say. Luckily you haven't been far out of your comfort zone yet, indeed it might as well be a B29 you're building

Cheers,
Erik

Thanks for looking and commenting, Erik...

And Greg: Spitting image!

I hope to finish the rear end tonight!

Got the main basic hull completed! It's a big 'un. The ruler is about 30cm or a foot and the son is 6 ft. tall!

With the sail and prop installed, it's finally looking less like a B-29. Lots of sanding etc. to do but it's getting there.

By Christmas??? We'll see.

Priming, filling, sanding repeat has started. I also got the curved leading edge added to the sail that I think is for parting ice or at least protecting the sail a bit.

Lots more to come this week...I hope.

IIRC that shape is for smoother water flow around the sub's form.
Water makes noise when it runs up against and tries to flow around right angle corners.
Noisy submarines are to be avoided.
