Steamship HYDROGRAAF - 1:200 scale

Hello to everybody

some years ago, during a business trip in Amsterdam, I went to visit the National Maritime Museum in the town and there, in the museum shop, I bought a copy of the paper kit, in 1:100 scale, of the steamer Hydrograaf, once an hydrographic ship of the Royal Dutch Navy and nowday used for little cruisers and events onboard.

Here below some information from the website : Hydrograaf (1910)

The Hydrograaf is one of the largest classic steamships in The Netherlands. Building her started at the 11th of october 1909 and she was launched at the 26th of january 1910.
The ship was built at the Fijenoord shipyard at Rotterdam, try not to think about the Dutch footballclub with the same name, for the Royal Dutch Navy.
Her role was that of a hydrographic researchvessel in the coastal waters of The Netherlands, as well as the Zuiderzee and Waddenzee.
That is why she just has a draft of 1,80 meters. She is 40,45 meters long and 6,70 meters wide and she has a displacement of 297 tons. The ship can sail at a speed of around 10,5 knots.

more info you can see at the above link...

So, because I decided for this Christmas 2022, to make a nice gift to a one of my best friends, I unpacked some month ago the envelope with the drawings of this ship and I started the building...

She took some months to be completed, but I was just in time to gift this model to my friend, on Christmas day, completed with the transparent glass case.

The kit is designed by Jeroen van den Worm, and is present and sold also through the website : www.worldofpaperships.nl/, together with some other very nice ship models kit, all in paper.

The kit quality is at high level, well drawn and with exact dimensions and it was both challenging and exciting to build this ship

So, below, some pics of the model, just few hours before to be gifted to my friend.

Hoping you'll like... I wish you all the best and enjoy with a new year of paper modeling !

ciao

Jp

Fantastic detail and lovely clean build. Did you use the laser cut parts the designer offers?

Hello....

No.. had not used any laser cut parts in the model.

All the parts are coming directly by cutting the paper pages of the booklet containing the parts.

The only not-paper parts used in the model are the rigging (not the ratlines, that instead are made by paper too) the ropes for the cranes and the pole at bow for the flag.

All the other parts are 100% paper :-)

Kind regards and Happy New Year

Jp

Hello, Mike !

Indeed my friend was astonished and very happy for this Christmas gift !!

Anyway..I'm understanding that, for the future Christmas, I'll make some little paper models as gifts instead of "traditional" ones...

Is very funny to look the people faces when they understand that is "paper only" :-)

Kind regards and Happy New Year !!

Jp

This model is a publication of World of Paperships, The Netherlands. It can be ordered through internet or sent me an email at [email protected]

By the way: the scale is 1: 250. A lasercut set is also available.

Looking forward to your reactions!
