Abhovi: I understood you, Ab Do you think that the weight of the decorations was so great? I donīt. Iīm sure you saw the stern carving of the Royal charles, decoration wasnīt so thick except for the large figures, the thickness on the sides wasnīt more than 10 - 15 cm in the thickests parts , but that's just my opinion.
And courage.. I would rather need more time, which I don't have. Another part of the decoration added. You can see the model in the sunlight on the last pictures. It must have been a breathtaking sight at sea Jan |

Masterpiece in progress here.
Jan: My favorite ship built by you is the "Trinidad". But . . . that might change, when this one is completed. |

Hi;
As a matter of history, it was a standard practice to remove all the ornamentation from ships of the line during time of war. The weight was considerable and it affected stability, maneuverability and speed. It certainly contributed to the disaster of Wasa. Regards, rjccjr |

Thank you, friends, for your replies
rjccjr: I donīt know nothing about that it was a standard practice to remove decoration, be sure it should take a lot of time to place and replace it . Look at the some of paintings, all the decorations are there. BTW, the SOTS was named the Golden Devil by Dutch. Why ? Because of removed decoration? The reason the Vasa sunk was not the decoration, but the bad desing, they recognized it during the building, when they were trying the stability. Jan |

Large departures in Naval Architecture design remain bad luck to this day. Not as bad as for the Vasa, but still.
Arleigh Burke was first ship (so goes the story) designed entirely on the computer, and when the bow was married up the hull, the fit was off by 10 inches, 25 cm. (The solution was the employment of some pretty hefty come-alongs). The Littoral Combatants were the last ship I was involved with designing, they were to be completely modular and innovative. Several lessons seem to have been overlooked (the aluminum corrosion in the jet drives, the combining of different drive trains, and biggest of all was depending on emerging subsystems that never emerged). They remain capable ships in their design roles, but have hardly found favor by their host Navy. |

A small update - on the bow and stern
To be honest, I never expected to make it this far. And there is still a long way to go to finish the decoration.. ( and where the ropes and masts are.....and sails... ) Jan |

Hello Jan,
From the photos you show, it looks like the work is going well. Is this the most challenging project you have ever done? |
