Sovereign of the Seas ( 1:96 ) scratch build

Dear friends,

12 years ago I started building this beautiful ship, together with Doris. I stopped it for different reasons. Now is the time to return back and finish what I started. I hope I will finish it now.

At first I had to improve the colour of hull, the colour of wales was a big mistake. It fits for hulls I made later, they were more darker, but not for this.
Then I patinated the hull - now it looks more like wood painted with tar.

In the meantime, a book by Mc Kay was also published, and several other beautiful models were built, but... I forgot almost everything So I have to learn a lot about the ship again.

Now I have to repair some mistakes on decks and gallion. So, forgive me, but I have to partially destroy some parts of the ship.

Excellent project.
It is impressive that you held on to this incomplete hull for 12 years.
This will be one to watch.

Thank you, friends.

The hull is beautiful, but there are mistakes. Some of them I can repair, some not. At first, I improved some mistakes on decks, and now I completely removed the gallion. I made a new grate, the old one was too wide. Now I have to produce new board. Fortunatelly I saved the sides of the gallion.
This is a long run I have to improve a lot.
Maybe you thought I will to decorate the ship immediately. No. At first, there will be the hull as It should be.

Thank you, Greg.

The floor on the gallion is finished, now is narrowed about 1 cm in the front, boards are also narrower. Parts of sides are also modified.

I removed the front part of the ship, and made it more flat, as it probably coud be ( you can see it on engravings ). The model was based on Mantua plans - it was almost 13 years ago, there were no monographies, no researchs, no other sources. Hopefully Doris finished her model and together with two captains who advised and left us a lot of informations.

I think now it is more better. I also changed the interior from red ( as you can see on sooner photos ) to wood. Maybe it is suitable - maybe not.

I also bought the book written by John Mc Kay, as you already know.

To be honest - the most important informations for me are about the decoration, armory and rigging. But the hull- there are a lot of questions.
But we have just three pictures of the ship, so nobody knows...There are several publications also, but no one´s perfect.

Sometimes I think I should to start to build the ship again - from the beginning, as it should be, and do it all better... but now there´s no way back

Hello Jan . . . I am following this project.
It seems you are looking for information about this ship.
Is it possible, Doris' build report would contain helpful information?

Of course, Mike,
as I said, there are several books about the ship. But - the arrangment of the upper deck and superstructures is - and still will be - unknown.
I will do it by myself, as I decide.
And, of course Doris´ build is the greatest source of informations, I can use it by her permission.
