Nice work. The flipped slots were a common bug back then

The flipped slots is the only real issue I've encountered so far. I did have a small gap in the cockpit where the inner sidewalls meet up with the cockpit floor. I made a small filler piece for that and painted it brown.
The inner hull plating is going on fine. I haven't been working too much on it lately. |

First layer of 'skin' is on. Her shape is now very evident.

Looking good and the hull suggests it was good on water too. It would be nice to know if this particular desing was ever built. Part fit looks good too so you must be enjoying the build.

I am enjoying the build so far and yes, the part fit is very good.
I did attempt the rigging blocks and I do not like that build-up arrangement very much. The glued up layers keep coming apart on the card I used. So likely I will deviate from that and make something a little better. If I had to guess if it was ever built, my guess would be yes mostly because Chapman has it drawn up but more specifically he provided a very detailed stern view. No need to provide that level of detail for a representative design. |

Outer skin is now applied. Only light trimming was required on the final plank to bring it all flush to the keel. Mating of parts was pretty good too.
For the 'wood' finished parts above the waterline they were in two sections of two planks each, but I cut out each individual plank and applied individually (now four pieces). Visually it looks much better. I would consider leaving the joints below the waterline if they represented individual planks like above the waterline, but whereas these do not, I will add some filler to them to hide it and paint afterwards. I will wait until the keel and stem are applied before painting however. |

I have a wonderful book called The Story of Sail which contains about 1000 drawings of sail craft through the ages. I found a vessel very similar to this hull shape and gaff rig arrangement labelled as a 'Roslag jagt' which was an inter-island cargo transport, alternatively it may be a 'schute' which sometimes had accomodation. So it may well have existed either as a bespoke design or a conversion.
