1/200 Heinkel Models' Infanta Maria Teresa

Hello ladies and gentlemen, after my Simara Ace, I thought it was time to actually try to put my lasercutter at work... actually it turned out that while the lasercutter did the actual "physical" work, I had to work out the mental process of converting a pdf to a workable format for the machine, while making sure all measurements remained correct.

Anyways, here we go...

The frame :



Well, what a surprise, suddenly it's no longer a full hull model ? ...

While it was my intention to built the ship in her full hull version , I suddenly realized that I had cut all the underwatership slots on the top side, meaning, both the ones in the false keel as the ones in the bulkheads. Yet I blindely followed the lines in the pdf files. That's no excuse of course, if I had been more aware while working the files I should have noticed the error.
My lovely wife however convinced me not to alter the files and to proceed with a waterline model instead.

And that's where I am at the moment :



After finishing the frame a couple of days ago, I was kind of stuck, because I replaced the toners of my printer a while back with cheaper blank products, simply because I can't afford the brand toners for my printer anymore. However it turned out the printquality was far from sufficient for a model, so I was kind put down by the situation. This morning though, it occured to me that I had already printed this model a couple of months ago on the printer at my work. So, even though I'm home injured at the moment I will have something to do

I'll follow this thread with high interest... because the Heinkel Model production is at very high quality both for design and for choice of subjects.

Thank you for following my little adventure gentlemen.
Progress on the ship is slow but steady, slow, mainly because recently I'm just too tired when coming home after work. Since I can't afford a car anymore I have to walk to and from the station for work (half an hour). So I only work on the model during the weekend.

JP, I agree with you about Heinkel's models, the quality is fantastic (though, if you have this particular one keep your mind to it if you want to make it full hull, the slots are wrong), and I like the "obscure" subjects of his models.

Work on the hull is finished (I think), so we're starting on the deckstructures fore and aft :




Only now I notice that I have forgotten to remove a rectangle (W) in the deck, no big deal since it's still easily accessable.





For this update no lasertechnology has been used.

PS : you may notice that some of the parts have printing on the back, this is because I had printed this kit at work and had forgotten that the settings for the printer in my office are at default double sided prints, so I had print it twice (good for spares of course).

And here I am again with a small update, work goes slowly but we'll get there in te end...

There had to be four of these external platforms installed :


Maybe not perfect, but the white lines have now been touched up with black, and the inmperfections are hardly noticeable.

Next step was making and installing all those deckfittings :





Followed by seven of these stairs :


Again not perfect, but when installed:

Hardly noticeable.

Each of those staircases also needed railings, there is a template to make these from 0.4 mm wire, however since I don't have the correct wire, I cut them from 0.4 mm cardstock instead :






This is a real fun model to build.

Nice way to go with those handrails for the gangways.
You made them out of card, and achieved an excellent result.

Making 'wires' from card is unexpectedly successful and comes with the benefits of being easier to glue and can be coloured/painted more easily.
Looks good so far. You got a great result with those curved platforms.
