U.S.S. Maine (ACR-1) Heinkel Models
Hello my fellow papershredders, I will give it another go at a new model.
The next subject of my attempt is a primitive American warship from the late 19th century, namely the USS Maine, a ship that exploded out of the blue, giving the country an excuse to start yet another war with a European nation under the creed "Remember the Maine, to Hell with Spain". Anyway, this time I have not used my lasercutter yet for the hull. As you can see, there are white-ish blemishes on the underwatership, but I intend to paint it, that is why I didn't bother to colour the edges of the ows-parts.

I like "primitive" ships.
Will be watching this one. I see you were experimenting with 3D printed railing. Will you be using it here? Mike Last edited by Michael Mash; 02-25-2024 at 01:36 PM. Reason: Added question |

I'm not sure yet Mike, I'll decide when I get at that point. However, IF I choose another experiment with that, I will add some sort of a flat "base" for better fixation to the deck.

Hi, Dan..
this is a very nice model, well designed by Heinkel111 .. I already built this model, from his kit, some years ago and it was a really fun and interesting model to build.. (very impressive, when put under a transparent case...) I'll follow this your thread with attention... and I wish you an happy paper-modeling !! Ciao from Rome Jp

Building has been slow the last couple of weeks, due to fatigue and shortage of time.
However, some (small) progress has been made. Today I tackled the shaft-assembly (minus the screw, I'll wait till the last for that) : In place (with the rudder) and after repainting the underwater part of the hull (I wasn't satisfied with the colour my printer gave me (cheap toners)). I have abandonned the idea of plating the hull btw. Next job is step 6 ; the canons, 4 are needed but today I only managed to produce 2 so far. To be continued...

Hello fellow modelers, unfortunately it's already long past sunset over here, meaning my pictures will even look more amateuristique than the duckfaces of those silicones-laden little golddiggers.
However I did not want to hold back on the poor images of the progress I've made so far. I was lucky to find a Vallejo bottle in my inventory that was close enough to camouflage the cuts. To be continued...
