Simon -
As Pablo says, the USS Bagley revised and offered by Gerry in 1/400 [https://www.papermodelers.com/forum/...ownloadid=2932 is based on Wayne McCullough's 1/600 design available here as a free download: https://www.papermodelers.com/forum/...ownloadid=2911 Nice work on DD-557 (and all the others in this thread), Pablo! WIP Liberty Ship
Thank you Don and Steven for stopping by.
Don, the encouragement coming from you means a lot to me. Steven, I am almost done whit Bruno’s ships. Hopefully he will offer his Bagley-class destroyer. I just wanted to show part of his model’s range. Also wanted to build simple models that I could finish fast, in contrast to more detailed models originally in 1/400 or larger scales. These WWII ships were enlarged more than 300%, except for the U-Boat (only 125% enlargement). The next project in progress is the Liberty Ship. Here is the first and second attempt. In the first one I disliked how the deck was above the drainage openings. The second attempt lowered the deck to match the drainage openings and a super simple recolor. |

Howdy Pablo,
Your work is so clean especially down in this size. It must be the glue you use. Aleens tacky glue is my preference when building larger size paper models however this small stuff it is a battle to get sharp and clean assemblies. Suggestions? Thanks, Bob |

Thank you Bob for stopping by.
I think for me the most important part is to use: good magnifying glasses, then a very sharp knife and small scissors to cut the small parts, following for a set of pointy tweezers, cuticle nipper or nail clipper to remove excesses, needle mounted on a handle to initiate holes and mini drill bits to enlarge them, toothpicks/chopsticks of different diameters to roll cylinders, and a ruler and digital caliper to check your work (at 1/400 a 1 mm is almost half a meter or near a foot and a half). Here is an advance on the liberty ship. It is taking time since I am fabricating some details. I hope this was useful, but the master of micro modeling is Tata Sam who has not published lately. My micro world ps: by the way Bob, your pilot boat looks really good! Last edited by wireandpaper; 05-19-2024 at 01:48 AM. |

I fabricated the cargo booms with toothpicks and antennas with needles. The armament is from the Digital Navy and Jaromir, rigging may be later. I always try to find a decent 3-view-drawings and rescale to the model to build and check the progress. The model was scaled from 1/1250 to 1/400, for a rescaled model of more than 300%, I think it went well. I hope you like it.

Excellent work on the Liberty Ship, Pablo!
I had the pleasure of sailing aboard the Liberty Ship John Brown on a day trip out of Baltimore Harbor a few years ago. A memorable experience. 'https://www.ssjohnwbrown.org/ Don |
