To rig the ship, I decided to modify the kit and follow the photo that shows it carrying topsail yards. At this stage, the foremast is almost fully rigged, with only the yard braces remaining. The mainmast will soon receive its stays. The rigging of the main and fore yards is somewhat imaginative, as the supporting chains could not be seen in any of the ship’s photos. However, such chains were commonly used during this time period on both fighting and merchant ships. I decided to include them, as I could not figure out how the yards were actually attached to the masts on this cruiser.

I've been admiring some of the extra details you've added. The pilot house windows, lenses on the search lights, the railings, the various ladders, the anchor chains... Very nice!
What did you use for the railings? Looks to me like they might be wire or plastic rod for the posts and thread for the rails? You've set the bar very high! |
