SS United States - 1:400 - JSC

It's such a pity that the SS United States, one of the last remaining great liners and holder of the Blue Riband, will soon be sunk as an artificial reef, and not preserved as a hotel/cultural/conference/entertainment center like the Queen Mary. So, as a little tribute, I'll be building the 1/400 version by JSC.
Internal frame is with JSC's typical triangular beam, and lightweight construction:

Marco your productivity is amazing. I'm glad to see you have an interest in commercial vessels as opposed to warships which seem to dominate all the forums. I'm following with great interest.

Nah, gimme a weekend to finish!

I'm glad that there is an interest in this impressive vessel. And I always enjoy building passenger liners. This ship has some very sleek lines:

This model of the SS United States has the same flaw as the fantastic WHM version: No complete hull as it should be. I am trying to design the bottom of the hull to be added to the card model. I've got the old plans published in Popular Mechanics way back in 1952 to build a highly detailed wooden version which shows the complete hull.

Thanks! This is indeed a ship where it would be interesting to see the underwater hull, being a speed champion.
The stern plating is challenging, but coming together.

Unfortunately the Popular Mechanics plans are very inaccurate. Here are the true line drawings.
