Thanks for viewing. The model was painted all over and not just "edge coloured"
I don't plan to build at this scale again anytime soon as the build did take a heavy toll on eyesight, but since I love small scales, I would like to see more builds of this size, so good luck all

Lex this is great work. I've had similar ideas about doing a 1/500 or 1/600 reduction of a kit.
You pulled this off masterfully for an older kit. BTW, I really like how you do your handrails by template construction and then attach them to the deck prior to upper hull sides installation. Very simple, but effective.

It was actually the first time I made handrails, and that was the only method I thought of. I only found out about other ways later... Still, it was quite a difficult thing to do for small scale and some places ended up rather quite unsightly

That's ok Lex. It doesn't show. It's a learning experience that I'm sure you'll use again and find better ways to refine it.
Good job!

Hello Lex, I am just amazed @ what you have done with this kit and to do it @ 1/600. I like how you made the flag, will try that in the future. I am a fan IJN WWII vessels, I tend to work 1/200 and up. Look forward to more from you.:DRick

Outstanding work on Nachi. I love those IJN heavy cruisers and have a soft spot in my heart for Nachi, since back in the mid-1950s I built a 1:1200 version out of balsa from hand-drawn plans based on the illustrations in Jane's Fighting Ships and Jay Launer's The Enemies's Fighting Ships, the best resources I had access to (at the Pratt Library in Baltimore) at the time.

I would be careful of Jane's and Launer's. Those are sources from that time, when our information on enemy ships was limited. Better to use the Office of Naval Intelligence recognition manuals. I have the originals for the Italians, Japanese, and Germans. The Italian manual is fairly accurate, since most of the Italian ships were prewar and the Italians were ... well ... indiscreet.
Even the ONI manuals should be judged carefully, since they were contemporary too. They are much more reliable for Allied ships. |
