Nice to see the Olympic finally getting her props. I think she tends to get lost in all the drama that her sister ships generated. Funny that she's been nearly forgotten because she was the one that survived.

some building updates on HMT Olympic

A update on the building of Olympic.

I have added some more details and the masts.
Altough I am not sure about the dazzle on the aft mast. So this might be painted over again in grey.

Comments are welcome!

p.s. the funnels have still not been attached to the model and are there for the picture only

Jerry

I wasn't to happy with the aft mast and on the TRMA they commented there was commented that the mast would be to thick and high. So I tried carving me some thinner and (a bit) shorter masts:

Hi Jerry. Love the work you are doing here - and the masts that you have re-made are just about on the nail {hard to tell properly from the angle of the shot - a side view would be better for HEIGHT perspective... they may still be a tad too tall } but saying that, they are certainly a lot better.

Thanks Peter,

How about this view:

I know the angle of the masts isn't correct yet. But the masts also have not yet been glued to the model.

I think you've got them about right - if you are not 100% sure, get a side view from the net and compare it, but like i say, the height seems ok. The Angle is close to that of the stacks {maybe a little further rearwards} again, take a look at a side view. Will you be up-scaling her Jerry ? she would look even more impressive

Well, I will leave them like they are then. If I am changing them to much they will fall out of line with my other 1:1200 papermodels (Titanic, Raise the Titanic and Britannic)

For now I am not planning on upscaling her myself. But I will design parts for her for other who are planning to upscale her. Because if she would be upscaled more details can be added (like the gun wich I had designed, but was to large.) And I think some of the modelers are planning on upscaling her as some of them also had upscaled the original Titanic model (see the photopage on Welcome to currell.net)

I had done this also with the davits in my Britannic conversion set

Jerry.

New guns were designed for the 1:1200 model. They're a bit smaller but they might still be to large. Making them smaller also makes them harder to cut out and construct.

Perhaps some of you might have some suggestions or comments?

The picture to the left is a "old" gun, the picture on the right is the new gun. The picture in the middle shows the new gun on Olympic's deck.

The newly designed guns still were to big. So I had some help of mr. Currel redesigning and downscaling the gun to the right size, making them even smaller. See the gun on the deck and a second at the background of the photo. It is even smaller then a pinhead!

You can see some of the first boats also have been build and attached.
